Name of Project: Broadway Signal Box LGBTQIA+ Portrait Wraps

Work Media:
 Digital Art to be printed on wraps for signal boxes along Broadway, Capitol Hill, Seattle

Work Size: To be given upon selection. (It is a four-sided box, but artists are only responsible for the portrait side. Please see example at end to see estimated size and scope if you’re selected). Portrait will be of historical LGBTQIA+ person – like Cal Anderson or Marsha P Johnson. Artists may express preferences but will ultimately be paired with person to portray.

Entry Requirements: Work sample of a portrait (doesn’t need to be one of the subjects of this project). We strongly encourage local LGBTQIA+ and BIPOC artists with a strong relationship to the neighborhood and community to apply.

REQUIREMENTS FOR APPLICATIONS (i.e. WHAT TO SUBMIT):

1.     Cover letter describing your approach to this project.

2.     At least one portrait but up to five samples of your digital work (or work that can be digitized)

3.     Artist Biography

Timeline: Signal box art will live in perpetuity on Broadway (likely at least five years)

Artist Fee: Artists will be paid by signal box, $900/per (with multiple signal boxes possible for a single artist) (There are 12 signal boxes altogether).

Entries Due: April 10, 2022

Selection Process: The Broadway BIA Director and Board, working with community members, will select 1-5 artists. Timeframe to complete art once selected will be 6-8 weeks so the wraps can be installed by Pride 2022.

Notification to artist: We will notify all selected artist(s) by April 15, 2022

Accepted Artwork: Note that the Broadway BIA will want to receive completed art in a print-ready digital file (PDF) according to the specs given upon selection.

Delivery: By no later than June 5, 2022

Reception: Pride Weekend (June 25-26, 2022)

Exhibit or Event Ends: In Perpetuity

Publicity: through Pride event producers, social media, and TV and radio
